The Bergamot King of Reggio Calabria – From Field to Table
Reserve Your Spot● Morning (8:00 AM - 9:00 AM): Lavish gourmet breakfast buffet.
● Morning (9:30 AM - 12:30 PM): A day dedicated to Bergamot of Reggio Calabria: Guided visit to a bergamot-producing organic farm near the city center. Hands-on experience in the orchard, learning about organic cultivation techniques, and tasting bergamot-based products such as juice and jam, fully immersing yourself in the heady fragrances of the citrus grove.
● Late Morning (12:30 PM - 1:30 PM): Return to downtown Reggio Calabria and
discovery of local crafts, with a special focus on traditional bergamot snuffboxes—aromatic souvenirs and a testament to ancient customs. We will admire these classic containers made from the inverted rind of this precious citrus fruit, once used to hold snuff tobacco, which became flavored by absorbing some of the fruit’s essence. Highly popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, they were even among the
comfort goods for soldiers of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. They disappeared when snuff fell out of use but reemerged later as spice containers or simply as scented souvenirs.
● Lunch (1:30 PM - 3:00 PM): “Sweet” Lunch featuring Bergamot: Instead of a traditional lunch, enjoy a special bergamot-themed tasting experience at a renowned artisanal gelato shop in downtown Reggio Calabria. You’ll savor a unique “sweet lunch” with a guided tasting of artisanal bergamot gelato in its various creative forms (sorbets, granitas, semifreddos, gourmet gelato), accompanied by a selection of pastries and small sweets made with bergamot, discovering the myriad flavor nuances and versatility of this extraordinary Calabrian citrus—even in unusual and surprising combinations.
● Afternoon (3:30 PM - 5:30 PM): Visit to the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria to admire the majestic Riace Bronzes, extraordinary 5th-century BC Greek warriors, a testament to Magna Graecia and a symbol of Calabria’s identity.

Scilla and Chianalea – The Flavors of the Sea and Swordfish

● Morning (9:30 AM): Departure from the Reggio Calabria Lido railway station bound for Scilla on a scenic train ride along the gorgeous Costa Viola. From your window, you’ll see breathtaking views, including crystal-clear seas and the Strait of Messina.
● Morning (10:30 AM - 1:00 PM): Guided walking tour of Scilla, one of the loveliest fishing villages in Italy—perched on the rocks and washed by pristine waters. We’ll explore Marina Grande, Scilla’s bustling heart, the charming San Giorgio district with its typical fishermen’s houses, and the imposing Ruffo Castle perched on a cliff overlooking the Strait of Messina. We’ll also see the “luntri,” the traditional boat used for swordfish hunting.
● Lunch (1:30 PM): Typical meal featuring fresh swordfish and seafood in the fishing village of Chianalea di Scilla, at a traditional restaurant with a panoramic terrace directly overlooking the sea, to savor authentic Mediterranean flavors while enjoying a magnificent view.
● Afternoon (3:30 PM): Return to Reggio Calabria by train, relaxing and once more taking in the captivating coastal scenery from the opposite direction.
● Evening: Free time in Reggio Calabria—enjoy the rest of the afternoon and evening as you wish, perhaps with a sea-view aperitif or exploring the historic center.

● Morning (9:00 AM): Departure by comfortable private coach from the hotel to Molochio, a hill town at the foot of Aspromonte, known as “the town of centenarians” and internationally renowned for longevity studies.
● Morning/Afternoon (10:30 AM - 3:00 PM): Food and Wine Experience at Deliba Olive Oil. In Molochio, at the family farm of Gianfranco Cosmano (the Organizer), you’ll enjoy a truly authentic Calabrian day devoted to extra-virgin olive oil. The experience begins with a walk through a centuries-old olive grove in the Calabrian countryside, where you can participate in the traditional manual olive harvest. You’ll learn the secrets of organic farming, the different varieties of Calabrian olive trees, and more.
● Lunch (1:00 PM): Traditional Calabrian “Farmer’s” Lunch, open-air (weather permitting) among the centuries-old olive trees of Deliba Olive Oil, in a rustic and genuine atmosphere. Enjoy a wholesome menu brimming with local flavors, featuring ultra-fresh, zero-mile products from the farm’s garden and fields, traditional peasant recipes passed down through generations, and, of course, the farm’s own EVO oils as the key ingredient and star of every dish.
● Afternoon (3:30 PM): Visit to the Slow Food Bakery: Transfer and an immersive Slow Food Bakery Experience in Molochio at a true temple of artisanal Calabrian baked goods, recognized as a Slow Food Presidium. You’ll discover the secrets of baking with ancient local Calabrian grains and sourdough, observing the preparation of the traditional Calabrian Panettone made with olive oil—a local spin on the classic holiday treat that swaps butter for EVO oil. You’ll take part in the workshop and end the experience with a unique tasting of special breads, focaccias, and other
fresh-from-the-oven baked goods, accompanied by local specialty products.
